Asisat Oshoala scores as Bay FC falls 5-1 to Gotham in NWSL
Super Falcons star Asisat Oshoala found the back of the net for Bay FC, but her efforts were not enough to prevent a heavy 5-1 defeat to Gotham FC in the NWSL on Sunday, October 6, 2024.
The match started with Gotham taking an early lead when Jenna Nighswonger converted a penalty in the 9th minute.
Bay FC equalized in the 18th minute after Oshoala received a well-timed pass from Racheal Kundananji and curled the ball into the right corner, leveling the score 1-1 at halftime.
However, Gotham FC took control in the second half, scoring three goals in four minutes. Rose Lavelle’s header in the 70th minute put Gotham back in the lead, followed by two quick goals from Esther González in the 72nd and 74th minutes. Cece Kizer then sealed the 5-1 victory in the 84th minute.
Despite the loss, Bay FC remains in the playoff race, currently holding the eighth and final playoff spot with three games left in the regular season.
