Aston Villa Interested in Samuel Chukwueze Despite Injury
Aston Villa are interested in signing Super Eagles winger, Samuel Chukwueze, from AC Milan, even though he is currently injured. The Nigerian player, who previously played for Villarreal, was forced to leave the pitch during Milan’s 1-1 draw with Roma on December 29 after injuring his thigh. It was later confirmed that he has a hamstring injury and will be out for about five weeks.
Aston Villa, managed by Unai Emery, are looking to strengthen their attack as they aim to compete on multiple fronts this season. With Jaden Philogene leaving the club for Ipswich Town in a £20m deal, Villa are now targeting Chukwueze to add more depth to their squad.
According to reports, Villa have already contacted Milan about a potential transfer for the 25-year-old winger. Chukwueze joined Milan from Villarreal in the summer of 2023 for a deal that could reach €28m. However, he has struggled to make a significant impact at Milan and has often been a substitute under coaches Stefano Pioli, Paulo Fonseca, and Sergio Conceicao. In 55 appearances for Milan, Chukwueze has scored just six goals and provided four assists.
Milan are reportedly open to selling Chukwueze, along with Noah Okafor and Luka Jovic, as they plan to bring in a new attacker. Talks are ongoing with Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford.
Chukwueze’s time at Milan has not gone as expected. He was once seen as a key player, but has found it hard to secure a regular starting spot due to the strong form of Cristian Pulisic. If he moves to Villa, he could reunite with Emery, with whom he won the UEFA Europa League in 2021.
For Milan, selling Chukwueze would allow them to focus on building a stronger squad under their new manager for the upcoming transfer window.
