Atlanta Dream signs D’Tigress star Ezinne Kalu on hardship contract

The Atlanta Dream has bolstered its roster by signing Nigerian basketball star Ezinne Kalu to a seven-day hardship contract, providing an exciting opportunity for the team and the talented guard. Kalu’s signing allows the Dream to temporarily replace injured or ill players, offering flexibility and the chance to evaluate the international standout.

Kalu, a key member of Nigeria’s D’Tigress, recently made headlines with her impressive performances during the 2024 Paris Olympics. The 5’8″ guard led Nigeria’s Olympic campaign, averaging 18.5 points per game, ranking her fourth among top scorers behind renowned players such as Emma Meesseman, A’ja Wilson, and Satou Sabally. One of her standout performances came in a game against Australia, where she recorded 19 points, five assists, five rebounds, and three steals, showcasing her all-around abilities.

Kalu’s experience extends beyond international play. She is no stranger to Georgia, having attended Savannah State University, where she became the first player in school history to score over 2,000 career points and led the Tigers to their first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championship in 2015.

As the only WNBA team in the Southeast, the Atlanta Dream, established in 2006, has a rich history that includes three appearances in the WNBA Finals and 11 All-Star selections. Kalu’s addition to the roster brings a wealth of experience and international flair that could provide a much-needed boost during her seven-day stint.

The Atlanta Dream’s next game will offer a chance for Ezinne Kalu to shine and solidify her place in one of the WNBA’s rising teams.
