Aubameyang to Lead Gabon’s 27-Man Squad Against Nigeria

Gabon head coach Thierry Mouyouma has named a 27-man squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff against Nigeria’s Super Eagles, with veteran striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang set to captain the team.

The squad, announced on Thursday in Libreville, includes several experienced players and some promising young talents as the Panthers prepare for the crucial first leg on 13 November 2025 at the Prince Héritier Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat, Morocco.

Aubameyang, who currently plays for Marseille, will lead the attack alongside Denis Bouanga, Gabon’s top scorer in the qualifiers with eight goals. Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Mario Lemina and Red Star Belgrade star Guélor Kanga are also among the key names in the squad.

Defender Bruno Ecuele Manga, goalkeeper Anthony Mfa Mezui, and midfielder Jim Allevinah were also included, bringing a mix of experience and balance to the team.

Gabon finished second in their qualifying group with 25 points, just one behind leaders Côte d’Ivoire, and will be hoping to secure a place in the final round of the World Cup qualifiers.

The winner of the tie between Nigeria and Gabon will face either Cameroon or DR Congo for a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
