Austin Eguavoen open to future Super Eagles role, says he is not a failure

Sacked Super Eagles technical adviser/interim coach Austin Eguavoen has said he will be open to taking the job in future if given the opportunity.

The former Super Eagles player who was the coach of the team to the AFCON 2021 where they were shockingly defeated by Tunisia in the Round of 16.

And the gaffer who was in charge as Nigeria failed to qualify for Qatar 2022 after losing to Ghana on away goal rule in the playoff games has revealed that he is not a failure.

Eguavoen while talking during SuperSports’ program, Monday Night Football, said he will be ready to take the job again in the future if offered.

“If there is still an opportunity for me, I will want to coach the Eagles again, but not at this moment, maybe later,” Eguavoen said.

“If I am called upon to lead the team again, I will definitely take up the job. I am still one of the good coaches in the country. I can still prove a point, it is just a matter of time.

“No regrets taking up the job. When you are called to serve the nation, I could not refuse them.

“I don’t see myself as a failure, I don’t have regret taking the Super Eagles job. I can’t reject the call to serve.

“Maybe the Super Eagles players don’t have the character, I used the word maybe. I also think the emotion was overwhelming.”

Austin Eguavoen and his technical crew were sacked few days after their failure to pick up the ticket to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
