Austin Eguavoen still Nigeria’s Technical Director
He was only sacked as Technical Advisor/Interim Manager
Austin Eguavoen is still Nigeria’s Technical Director despite his sack as the technical advisor.
On March 11 Austin Eguavoen led technical crew was sacked after failing to secure the tickets to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
“Following the failure of the Super Eagles of Nigeria to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the erstwhile Technical Adviser, Augustine Eguavoen has stepped down from that position with immediate effect.
“The NFF has in the meantime withdrawn the two-and-half years’ contract offered the coaches and terminated the appointment of the entire technical crew of the team with immediate effect.
“A new crew will be announced after a proper review to lead the new charge of reinvigorating the Super Eagles to face future challenges appropriately.
“We thank the coaches and team officials for their service to the nation and wish them success in their future endeavours,” said NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi.
Apparently, Augustine Eguavoen only left his coaching role which was tagged technical advisor/interim manager at the time.
Recall, ahead of the World Cup playoffs, Austin Eguavoen doubled as the Technical Director/ and Technical Advisor/ Interim manager, while Emmanuel Amuneke was the Chief Coach of the Super Eagles.
Salisu Yusuf was the 2nd Assistant Coach/Chief Coach of the CHAN team and Joseph Yobo was the 3rd Assistant while Aloysius Agu was the Goalkeepers’ Trainer.”
So, Austin Eguavoen who doubled as the Technical Director and Technical Advisor has only lost his Technical Advisor role but remains the Technical Director.
Even though Austin Eguavoen’s salary is been paid through a FIFA grant given to the NFF, the federation reserves the right to terminate his contract whenever they want.
Does it mean he was earning double salaries in both roles?
Meanwhile, this means that any of the oyinbo managers is appointed as Super Eagles coach, he will work under the Technical Director, Austin Eguavoen.
