Australia will not be easy – Super Falcons Skipper Onome Ebi
As Nigeria prepare to face Australia in their second group game of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, skipper Onome Ebi has acknowledged they are not expecting an easy game.
That match will take place on Thursday July 27 at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.
On Friday July 21, the Super Falcons of Nigeria began their campaign with a goalless draw against Canada at the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium while tournament co-host Australia defeated Ireland 1-0 a day earlier.
Both teams will head into Thursday’s clash in the knowledge of how crucial a win will be to their knockout round qualification hopes.
Backed by the cheering home support, the Matildas of Australia will reach the knockout round with victory reason Ebi is expecting a tough game just like in every game of the World Cup.
” We are in very high spirits, I can tell you Ebi told thenff.com It’s a day after the massive point, and we are already looking forward to our second match. The Aussies will not be easy, but we knew before arriving in Australia that no team in this tournament will be easy ”
40-year old Onome Ebi is at her sixth FIFA Women’s World Cup. The veteran defender was on the bench for the Super Falcons opening game and looks likely to watch on when they face Australia on Thursday.
While Nigeria will welcome back Rasheedat Ajibade and Halimatu Ayinde who both missed the first game through suspension, Australia will be without inspirational skipper Sam Kerr who has been ruled out of Super Falcons clash with injury.
Debutants Republic of Ireland will be Nigeria’s last group opponents of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World.
