Awoniyi Ends Goal Drought as Nottingham Forest Beat Brentford 2-0

Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi returned to the scoresheet as Nottingham Forest secured a vital 2-0 away win against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.
The victory was important for Forest, who had gone three matches without a win and needed maximum points to boost their fight against relegation. The result moved them further clear of danger.
Forest opened the scoring in the 12th minute through Igor Jesus. The move started on the right flank where Ola Aina showed great determination to create space before delivering a clever cross. Jesus controlled the ball well and finished with a powerful volley that left the Brentford goalkeeper helpless.
Awoniyi, who has endured a difficult spell marked by injuries and limited playing time, was introduced in the 68th minute to replace Jesus. The Nigerian striker made his impact felt just eleven minutes later.
Following a Brentford attack, Forest won the ball and broke quickly. Captain Morgan Gibbs-White released Awoniyi into space, and despite having little support, the striker used his strength to beat his marker before calmly slotting the ball into the net. It was his first Premier League goal since January 2025.
The goal gave Forest control of the game as they managed the closing stages well to secure a clean sheet and all three points.
Awoniyi’s return to scoring form will come as a major boost for both Nottingham Forest and Nigeria, as the striker continues to work his way back after a long and challenging period.
