Awoniyi hails Forest teamwork, togetherness after brace vs Chelsea FC
Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi has hailed the teamwork and togetherness amongst Nottingham Forest after his brace helped the club to a 2-2 draw vs Chelsea.
The game on Saturday May 13 at Stamford Bridge saw Awoniyi and Raheem Sterling on target for their respective team in the Premier League.
For Taiwo Awoniyi and Forest, it was a vital point in their battle against relegation and leaves Steve Copper`s men three points clear of the drop zone with games vs Arsenal and Crystal Palace to go this season.
Speaking with BBC after the match, Awoniyi revealed his teams plans for the Chelsea game and factors that helped for its successful execution.
He said “It was a good game. Obviously we know how good they are as a team and we came here with the spirit and togetherness and we had a plan and it worked. Unfortunately we didn’t get the three points.
“The most important thing was to get the goals and that brought us into the game. Many times we sat off but that’s the game plan and that’s what we did. It helped us as a team and individually to earn the draw today.
“Obviously when they score those two quick goals, you feel bad but that is football and you just have to believe in yourself and your team-mates and keep going and in the end we got the point
“I think for every striker, you always want to score every game. As a striker, you have to bring your team-mates in. It was a good ball from Brennan [Johnson] and if they don’t bring the ball into the box, there is no way I can get the chance to score so it is all teamwork.
“We still have two finals to go, the next one is Arsenal and from there we will see what happens.”
