Awoniyi has arrived where he belongs – Klopp
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has said Nottingham Forest Taiwo Awoniyi has arrived where he belongs.
Taiwo Awoniyi was the star man on Saturday at the City Ground as Nottingham Forest secured a shocking 1-0 win against Liverpool.
The Nigerian scored the only goal against Liverpool his former club in just his third start for Nottingham Forest.
Awoniyi was restored to the starting XI having played just 12 minutes in Forest’s last three league games, a decision coach Steve Cooper said was to terrorize Virgil van Dijk.
It paid off and the Nigerian who played for more than five clubs on loan during his time as a Liverpool player scored the decider.
Awoniyi never played a single game for Liverpool and was only taken to one preseason tour during his spell at the Reds.
And Klopp who knows Awoniyi from their time together at Liverpool has only positive things to say about the Nigerian striker.
“He’s had a sensational development,” Klopp said in his post-match press conference.
“He has arrived where he belongs and I am happy for him, but not today so much.”
Awoniyi joined Liverpool in 2015 from Imperial Academy, he was loaned to seven clubs across three countries.
He played for Frankfurt, Nijmegen, Mouscron, Gent, Mouscron, Mainz 05, and Union Berlin.
