Awoniyi set to miss Super Eagles games vs Saudi Arabia and Mozambique
Taiwo Awoniyi is set to miss upcoming International Friendly game between the Super Eagles of Nigeria vs the National teams of Saudi Arabia and Mozambique.
This is according to comments by Awoniyi’s club manager, Steve Copper, who confirmed the striker is injured and is expected to spend up to a month on the treatment table.
The Nigerian International missed Nottingham Forest’s 0-0 draw vs Crystal Palace on Saturday, October 7, 2023, a game that precedes the International break.
Nigeria will play two International Friendly matches in October, the first vs Saudi Arabia on the 13th before facing Mozambique on the 16th.
Super Eagles of Nigeria Head Coach, Jose Peseiro has since named his squad for both games but will miss the services of Taiwo Awoniyi.
In his last International appearance, Awoniyi scored in Nigeria’s 6-0 win over Sao Tome and Principe in Uyo.
At club level, Awoniyi has scored three goals, provided two assists in seven appearances for Forest in the Premier League this season.
The 26-year-old has gone five consecutive games without a goal. His last Nottingham Forest goal dates back to August 26 in a 3-2 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Also, Awoniyi’s Forest teammate Ola Aina is currently injured and a doubt for the Super Eagles games, the defender who was named Nottingham Forest, September Player of the month was also absent for the draw at Selhurst Park.
