Awoniyi starts, stars in Nottingham Forest win over Brighton
Nigerian forward Taiwo Awoniyi started and starred with an assist as Nottingham Forest defeated Brighton 3-1 in the EPL on Wednesday night.
Forest manager Steve Copper named the Nigerian forward in the starting XI for his 22nd English Premier League appearance of the 2022/2023 season.
It was Brighton who took the lead at the City Ground through Buonanotte in minute 38, leaving Forest to rue Brendan Johnson`s 11th minute penalty miss.
Pascal Gross turned into his own goal just before the half-time break to give the hosts momentum for a special second half display.
An improved second half display from Taiwo Awoniyi and his teammates produced two goals to earn three points in their battle against relegation.
Awoniyi assisted Danilo to put Nottingham Forest 2-1 up before Gibbs-white made the result safe with a stoppage time spot-kick.
The Nigerian International lasted 80 minutes on the turf before being replaced by Ghanaian forward Andre Ayew.
It finished Nottingham Forest 3-1 Brighton. A massive win that takes Steve Copper`s men out of the relegation zone at the expense of Leicester City.
Awoniyi`s compatriot Emmanuel was an unused substitute for Nottingham Forest.
