Ayo Okosun scores two as Midtjylland trash The New Saints to book Europa playoffs spot
Danish midfielder of Nigerian and German descent Ayo Simon Okosun came from the bench to score two goals as Midtjylland beat Welsh club The New Saints 3-1 at the MCH Arena in their Europa League qualifying third round on Thursday.
The newly signed midfielder who started from the bench became the hero for his side when he came on for another Nigerian Frank Onyeka in the 61st minutes.
Mayron George put the home side in front in the 16th minutes if the clash before the visitors pegges them back in the 22nd minutes through Dean Ebbe.
At half time it was all square.
With the scoreline 1-1 at 61st minutes, Ayo Simon Okosun was introduced for Frank Onyeka. Less than a minute after his introduction the 25-year-old scored his first goal of the night.
Jakob Poulsen corner found Paul Onuachu whose header was blocked by the keeper to Mayron George’s path, the keeper made another save but couldn’t stop Okosun shot.
18 minutes after he scored his first and his sides second, Okosun scored his second of the night in game Midtjylland were all over their opponents.
Ayo Okosun scored his second goal from a header from Mads Doehr Thychosen cross.
The hosts marched into the playoffs with a comfortbale 3-1 home win and 5-1 victory on aggregate.
Ayo Simon Okosun has scored two goals in two bames since he joined Midtjylland from Horsens this summer.
There were three Nigerians in action for Midtylland on Thursday, Paul Onuachu was on the pitch all through the game while Frank Onyeka played for 61 minutes before he was withdrawn for Ayo Simon Okosun.
