Azango scores again, Yem, Zubairu & Umeh help Trencin trash Gornik

Philip Azango scored and assisted a goal as Slovakia champions Trencin trashed Polish side Górnik Zabrze 4-1 at the Štadión Spartaka Myjava in the second leg of their Europa League second round qualifying match on Thursday.

Philip Azango put in a man of the match display to drag his Slovakia club Trencin to the next round of the Europa League qualifeir after a comfortbale 4-1 win at Štadión Spartaka Myjava on Thursday in their second leg clash.

The former Plateau United star man was the scorer of the only goal in Trencin’s 1-0 win in Poland in the first leg and he scored and assisted a goal on Thursday to finish the job he started last Thursday.

The home team took the lead through central defender Jamie Lawrence in the 10th minutes of the clash. Hamza Catakovic made it two after scoring from Azango’s assist.

Trencin went into the break with a confortable 2-0 lead, the restart was just as it ended with the home team pilling pressure on their visitors.

Then Philip Azango in the 59th minutes made it three for his side to ensure the game is all but won and also maintain his goal scoring form having scored in the first leg.

The visitors pulled one back through Daniel Smuga in the 60th minutes shortly after Arango scored his goal. Smuga’s goal wasn’t enough to scare the hosts who were the better side all night.

At the last minutes of the clash, Hamza Catakovic scored his second and Trencin’s fourth of the night to ensure the Slovakian club are through to the third round of the Europa League qualifeirs.

There were three other Nigerians in action for Trencin on Thursday, right back Reuben Yem, midfielder Abdul Zubairu and attacker Emeka Umeh.

Reuben Yem and Abdul Zubairu started and played for the entire game, Emeka Umeh was a second half substitute while Philip Azango was subbed off in the 86th minutes.
