Babajide strikes as Real Betis lose to Tenerife
Nigeria-eligible striker scores first goal of the season in La Liga
Former Liverpool striker and Super Falcons hopeful Rinsola Babajide scored her first goal of the season for Real Betis Feminas as they fell to a 2-1 defeat against Granadilla Tenerife in their La Liga Iberdrola clash.
Granadilla Tenerife opened the scoring after only 12 minutes through teenage midfielder Gisela Robledo Gil, who opened her account for the 2022-23 campaign.
Having seen her side go down by one goal, Babajide drew the Seville-based team level after 26 minutes. It was the 24-year-old striker’s first goal of the 2022-23 La Liga Iberdrola season. The former Liverpool star soon saw her effort go to waste as the visitors restored their advantage through veteran defender Raquel Peña from the penalty spot in the 65th minute as they claimed all three points from the encounter.
With the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup fast approaching, the form of Rinsola Babajide will be closely monitored by the Super Falcons scouts. The Britain-born striker will definitely add some bite to the Super Falcons’ attack if included in the roster to New Zealand/Australia.
