Bala Abubakar resigns as Katsina United coach
Bala Abubakar has tendered his resignation as head coach of Katsina United citing unfavourable working conditions. SportsRation reports.
Bala handed in his resignation letter immediately after Katsina United’s Nigeria Premier Football League matchday 25 encounter against Sunshine Stars on Wednesday, March 13, 2024.
The former Kwara United coach in his letter said the decision to step down was due to unfavorable working environment and the club’s failure to honor his contractual obligations.
Also, the experienced gaffer reportedly faced two separate attacks by disgruntled Katsina United fans, with no intervention from the interim management. On one occasion, he was rescued by heavily armed security personnel.
In his resignation letter, Abubakar expressed gratitude for the opportunity and support during his tenure, stating, “I humbly wish to resign my position as the Head Coach of Katsina United. This is a result of the lack of a conducive atmosphere and the non-fulfillment of my contract agreements. I’m sincerely grateful for the opportunity and support given to me during my brief stay with the club and wish the team the best of the season.”
Abubakar assumed the role of Katsina United’s Head Coach on MatchDay 13 with the team positioned 15th in the league standings with 14 points, just one point above the relegation zone.
Under his stewardship, he oversaw 12 matches, securing 6 home wins, 2 away draws, 1 home draw, and 3 away losses, accumulating a total of 21 points from a possible 36.
In his last engagement, Katsina United lost 1-0 to Kennedy Boboye tutored Sunshine Stars.
