Barcelona Close to Champions League Semi-Finals After Big Win Over Dortmund
Barcelona are close to reaching the Champions League semi-finals after a brilliant performance in the first leg of their quarter-final against Borussia Dortmund at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.
Barcelona started the match strongly and were clearly the better side in the early minutes. After creating several chances, they finally scored in the 25th minute. From a corner, Pau Cubarsí poked the ball towards goal, but just before it crossed the line, Raphinha touched it slightly to claim the goal.
Dortmund had a big chance to equalise before half-time, but Serhou Guirassy missed it. Soon after the break, Barcelona scored again. Lamine Yamal crossed the ball to Raphinha, who headed it across goal for Robert Lewandowski to tap in from close range.
Lewandowski scored his second goal of the night just after the hour mark. After a great team move, Fermín López pulled the ball back for the Polish striker, who scored his 105th Champions League goal.
Barcelona weren’t finished. In the 77th minute, Raphinha passed to Lamine Yamal, who calmly slotted the ball past Gregor Kobel, making it 4-0 and finishing off an amazing performance by Hansi Flick’s team.
Barcelona now take a strong lead into the second leg, which will be played at Signal Iduna Park next Tuesday. While nothing is certain yet, they are in a very strong position to reach the semi-finals, where they could face Bayern Munich or Inter Milan. Inter won the first leg of their tie 2-1 at the Allianz Arena.
