Barcelona consider move for Chelsea midfielder
Spanish giants Barcelona could make a move for Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic in the summer according to the Daily Star.
The 28-year-old midfield anchorman has played a key role for Antonio Conte’s side this season with Matic having made 29 appearances in all competitions for The Blues.
It has now been reported that La Liga title chasers Barcelona are plotting a move for the player in the summer should they fail in a bid to take Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti to the Nou Camp. Both Barcelona and Chelsea have been linked with moves for Verratti in recent weeks with the player’s long-term future at the Parc des Princes currently in the air.
Should Barcelona opt to move for Matic, the Spanish club may have to make a significant transfer offer to persuade Chelsea to sell the player. The midfielder has two years remaining on his current deal at Stamford Bridge while it has recently been reported that The Blues are set to offer a new and improved long-term con to Matic following his solid performances for the club.
Matic is in his second spell with Chelsea after previously representing the club between August 2009 and January 2011 prior to a move to Benfica. The Serbian international has made 140 appearances for The Blues and has netted five goals.
