Barcelona booked their place in the final of the 2026 Spanish Super Cup after a convincing 5-0 victory over Athletic Club in the semi-final played on Wednesday in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Barça were in complete control from the first minute and effectively decided the match in the opening half, scoring four goals before the break. Athletic Club struggled to cope with Barcelona’s pace, movement and sharp passing, and the game was already beyond them by half-time.
The breakthrough came as Barcelona dominated possession and created chance after chance. Roony Bardghji opened the scoring after a mistake from Athletic goalkeeper Unai Simón. Fermín López doubled the lead with a fine finish following a well-delivered cross from Raphinha. Raphinha then added a stunning goal with a powerful strike into the roof of the net, before Ferran Torres made it 4-0 to cap a brilliant first-half display.
Barcelona continued in the same manner after the restart and quickly added a fifth goal, with Raphinha scoring his second of the night from close range. After that, both teams made several substitutions, and the intensity of the match dropped.
Athletic Club had very little to offer going forward and created just a few half-chances, including a shot that hit the post and a late one-on-one opportunity that was missed. Barcelona, however, remained comfortable and managed the game well until the final whistle.
The win sends Barcelona into the Spanish Super Cup final, where they will face either Real Madrid or Atlético Madrid. With such a dominant performance, Barça will head into the final full of confidence as they look to lift the trophy.
