Barcelona are reportedly targeting Nigerian-eligible Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka to bolster their squad ahead of the new LaLiga season. This interest comes in response to Real Madrid’s high-profile signing of Kylian Mbappe, prompting Barcelona to strengthen their own lineup.
Chukwuemeka, 20, has faced challenges breaking into Chelsea’s starting XI due to injuries and stiff competition. Chelsea is reportedly open to a permanent sale of Chukwuemeka if they receive a “good proposal,” according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Romano provided clarity on Chelsea’s position, stating: “Let me clarify that for Carney Chukwuemeka… the message coming from Chelsea is very clear. Chelsea have no intention to let the player go on loan. This is the position of Chelsea. Only a permanent transfer in case they receive a good proposal.”
He added that while Chelsea are pleased with Chukwuemeka’s skills and attitude, they would consider a permanent sale for the right offer. “If they receive a very good proposal, the story could be different… Chelsea at the moment are not keen on a loan move,” Romano explained.
Chukwuemeka’s contract with Chelsea runs until 2028, with a reported £40m release clause. However, Chelsea may accept a lower offer from potential suitors, as noted by Football365.
In related transfer news, Chelsea is close to securing Wolves forward Pedro Neto for approximately £55m. This move is part of Enzo Maresca’s efforts to build a competitive team capable of challenging at the top of the Premier League.
