Barcelona legend Samuel Eto’o congratulates his boyhood club Real Madrid after dramatic win against Man City

Legendary Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o has congratulated his boyhood club Real Madrid after coming from behind to beat Manchester City to a place in the 2021/22 Champions League final.

Samuel Eto’o joined Real Madrid at the age of 16 and was a part of the 1999/2000 UEFA Champions League winning squad before he was loaned out in January.

Manchester City were close to a consecutive champions league final after Riyad Mahrez’s goal looked enough for the reigning English champions, but two quick 90th and 91st-minute goals from Rodrygo forced an extra time.

Karim Benzema from the spot-kick finished off the 3-1 comeback win for a 3-2 aggregate win and a place in the final for Real Madrid against Liverpool.

And Samuel Eto’o joined millions of Real Madrid fans to celebrate the dramatic victory.

“Bravo @realmadrid, the club where it all started for me, on their impressive victory last night #ChampionsLeague,” Eto’o posted on his Instagram account on Wednesday night, alongside a photo of the celebrating Real Madrid players.

This move however caused a little stir as many Barcelona fans found it offensive, but this is not surprising to those who read his interview with Marca in 2021.

Samuel Eto’o revealed that Los Blancos will always be a club after his heart and he will forever be grateful to them.

“I will always be grateful to the club, regardless of the decisions made by some people.

“Presidents make decisions, but I will always carry Real Madrid in my heart.”

Samuel Eto’o left Real Madrid for Real Marloca where he spent four years winning Copa Del Rey in 2003 before joining Barcelona in 2004.
