Bassey Akpan in line for Akwa United Coaching job
2001 FIFA U-17 World Cup goalkeeper of the tournament Bassey Akpan is lined up for a coaching job at NPFL club, Akwa United FC. SportsRation reports.
Akpan last played active football in the 2021/2022 season with Kano Pillars FC and now looks set to retire from active football to become a Coach.
Bassey Akpan has recently been spotted on Akwa United FC assigned coaches wear training the clubs goalkeepers in the absence of veteran trainer Moses Effiong.
1980 Africa Cup of Nations winning goalkeeper, Moses Effiong (MON) has dutifully served as Akwa United FC goalkeeper coach for many years, winning two Federation Cup titles and the NPFL title in 2021.
With the veteran Moses Effiong advanced in age, goalkeeper Bassey Akpan will be drafted into the Coach Fatai Osho led coaching crew, SportsRation exclusively reports.
When this move becomes official, it will represent a smart move by the Elder Paul Bassey led Promise Keepers management team to engage one of Akwa Ibom state’s most outstanding footballers – same way one-time NPFL top-scorer Akarandut Orok announced retirement from active football to join the technical crew in 2022.
