Basssey looking forward to new season at Ajax despite exit talks
Nigerian defender Calvin Bassey has revealed he is looking forward to the new season at Ajax Amsterdam despite exit talks after a difficult first season in Netherlands.
The Super Eagle endured a turbulent start to life at Ajax, attracting criticism from sections of the fans for his performances following a big money move from Glasgow Rangers in the summer of 2022.
After returning for pre-season, Calvin Bassey in an interview with Ajax TV, spoke of his desire and commitment towards impressing new manager Maurice Steijn, who joined the club in the off-season from Sparta Rotterdam.
Bassey spoke of the hard work he has put in during the holiday and expressed optimism that will produce positive dividends.
“Of course I trained all summer long. You want to come back in the best shape. We have a new coach so a good start is important. Hopefully I can score some bonus point,” Bassey said.
“I’ve been working hard so it should work out. I’m happy to be back and looking forward to the new season.”
The defender who made 25 appearances for Ajax in the 2022/2023 season has been linked with a transfer to long-term admirers Brighton and Hove Albion but nothing concrete has happened reason Calvin Bassey has reported back for pre-season at the Johan Cruyff Arena.
