Bayer Leverkusen Update on Victor Boniface’s Injury Ahead of Borussia Dortmund Match

Bayer Leverkusen has given an update on Victor Boniface’s injury as they prepare for Friday’s Bundesliga match against Borussia Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park.

Victor Boniface

Boniface has been out of action for seven weeks after hurting his thigh in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Rwanda. Because of this injury, he missed eight games for Bayer Leverkusen, including five Bundesliga matches, before the winter break.

It was earlier reported that Boniface was ready to return after training fully before Christmas. However, he was not in the squad for Sunday’s friendly match against Rot-Weiß Oberhausen, which was a warm-up for the Bundesliga restart.

Bayer Leverkusen confirmed on their website that Boniface is still recovering and his return has been delayed due to a small setback in his recovery process.

His last competitive game was on November 9th in a 1-1 draw with VfL Bochum. Before getting injured, Boniface had scored 8 goals in 15 games for Leverkusen.

During Boniface’s absence, Patrik Schick stepped up and impressed with strong performances in attack.

In the January transfer window, Bayer Leverkusen signed Alejo Sarco from Argentinian champions CA Vélez Sarsfield to compete for a spot in the starting lineup alongside Boniface and Schick.
