Bencic puts Switzerland ahead in United Cup Final
Belinda Bencic has delivered a defining moment for Switzerland in the United Cup final, defeating world No. 2 Iga Świątek 3–6, 6–0, 6–3 to give her team a 1–0 lead over Poland.
After losing the opening set, Bencic completely shifted the momentum. She dominated the second set without dropping a game and stayed composed in the decider, closing out one of the biggest wins of her recent career on the sport’s team stage.
The victory marked Bencic’s 40th career win over a top-10 opponent and her first win over a top-two player since 2019. She also finished the week with a 9–0 record.
Świątek, a six-time Grand Slam champion, was unable to regain momentum after the one-sided second set, as Bencic maintained pressure through the final stages of the match.
The result put Switzerland ahead in the United Cup final tie, with the men’s singles and mixed doubles matches still to follow to decide the overall champion.
