Bendel Insurance goalkeeper Amas Obasogie gets maiden Super Eagles call-up

Bendel Insurance FC goalkeeper, Amas Obasogie has received a maiden Super Eagles call-up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification games vs Lesotho and Zimbabwe.
Obasogie has in the last two seasons established himself as one of the best goalkeepers In the Nigeria Premier Football League and has now earned national team recognition.
The Insurance goalie has been invited by Super Eagles Head coach Jose Peseiro as replacement for Udinese shot-stopper who has pulled out of the team for this week’s FIFA World Cup qualification games.
Nigeria is scheduled to face Lesotho on November 16, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo before travelling to face Zimbabwe on November 19, 2023.
Amas Obasogie will now report to camp in Uyo alongside twenty-two other invited players for the two International games.
Cyprus based Francis Uzoho and Enyimba FC skipper Ojo Olorunleke are the other two goalkeepers invited by Coach Jose Peseiro.
Reacting to his maiden Super Eagles call-up, Obasogie expressed his happiness at the opportunity to represent the Super Eagles first team after previously turning out with the home-based Eagles as he flourished in the NPFL.
Obasogie said on Monday, November 13, “It was good news for me when I received a call from the Super Eagles camp that I have been invited for the match on Thursday.”
“I’m very happy to have been invited by the manager, and I want to thank the coach and his coaching crew as well as the NFF Technical Committee.”
“This call-up is for the fans and the home-based players, and I want to thank them all for their support and belief in me. I will be in the camp and give my best for the coach and my fatherland.”
“It’s a great privilege for me, and I will never take it for granted.” he said.
This season, Amas Obasogie has been fantastic for Bendel Insurance FC keeping clean slates in 90% of the teams games in the Nigeria Premier Football League.
