Benefits of Shooting Sports and a Growing Legacy in Nigerian Sports – Mrs Ogboi Theresa

Mrs Ogboi Theresa, Vice Chairman of the Police Shooting Association and Head Coach of Team Akwa Ibom Shooters, has been praised as one of the pioneers of shooting sports in Nigeria. Her dedication has played a major role in the growth and recognition of the sport nationwide.
Speaking at the National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, Mrs Theresa outlined the benefits of shooting sports. She explained that it sharpens mental alertness, builds focus, and strengthens the mind, making it a valuable discipline for young athletes.
Today, Nigeria has more than 450 professional shooters, and Mrs Theresa has been central in introducing the sport to many states and guiding upcoming talents. Under her leadership, Team Akwa Ibom continues to make progress and represent the state proudly at national competitions.
She thanked the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, for supporting the shooting team’s participation at the Games, saying that his backing has given young athletes the platform to showcase their skills.
Mrs Theresa also appealed for more help, especially with equipment, since the sport requires huge investment. She stressed that greater support will raise standards and enable Nigerian shooters to achieve more success.
Despite the challenges, her work remains an inspiration and is building a strong legacy for the future of shooting sports in Nigeria.
