Benin Republic star reveals how they planned Nigeria defeat
The Cheetahs of Benin Republic forward, Jordel Dossou has opened up on how they were able to beat Nigeria’s Super Eagles on Monday, June 10.
Nigeria lost 2-1 against Genot Rohr tutored Benin Republic on matchday four of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Raphael Onyedika fired ahead before Jordel Dossou leveled the game for Benin Republic before Mounie scored the winning goal and ensured maximum points for the host.
“This style of play was worked on in training. We know that Mounié Steve wins almost all duels,” Dossou said of their performance as per 24haubenin.
” Well before the goal action, Steve called me and told me that since Ajayi (Nigeria player ) is on me all the time, I’ll have to change my strategy.
“On the first occasion, he let the ball pass, too bad I missed it. For the second time, I hid behind the defender, and as soon as Steve let the ball go. I appeared and stole the ball from him to equalize”, he added.
Benin Republic moved to the top of the group C table with 7 points while Nigeria dropped to 5th position with 3 points.
