Benjamin Mendy joins FC Lorient after days after being cleared of rape
French Footballer Benjamin Mendy has joined FC Lorient to continue his career days after being cleared of rape charges which kept him out of football for two years.
Mendy, FC Lorient confirmed on Wednesday July 19, has signed a two-year contract to with the club as a free agent.
The left-back last played active football in August 2021 before a two year-long legal battle over rape related charges ensured he never played for Manchester City again until the expiration of his contract in June 2023.
On Friday, Mendy was found not guilty of rape and attempted rape by a jury at Chester Crown Court thus clearing the path for his freedom and now return to football.
The 29-year old will hope to revive his career, one that did enjoy considerable success at club and International level before the legal setback.
A member of France 2018 FIFA World Cup winning squad, Mendy returns to the Ligue One, from where he moved to Manchester City in 2017 after a solid season with Monaco.
