Defending champions set for clash against Madrid
Athletic Bilbao scored all three goals in their 2-1 win against Atletico Madrid in Saudi to book a Supercopa de España final clash against Real Madrid.
The defending champions booked a place in the final at the King Fahd International Stadium on Thursday after overcoming a set back in Saudi Arabia.
Spanish number one goalie, Unai Simon scored an own goal in the 62nd minutes to put La Liga Champions ahead.
Bilbao equalized through defender Yeray Alvarez in the 77th minutes and got what proved to be the winning goal in the 81st minutes through Nico Williams.
Atletico who were threw caution into the winds in search of an equalizer were reduced to 10-man when Jose Gimenez was sent off in the 94th minutes.
2-1 in favour Athletic Bilbao at the King Fahd International Stadium.
Athletic Bilbao will now play Real Madrid in the final scheduled for Sunday at the the King Fahd International Stadium.
Real Madrid secured a 3-2 win against Barcelona in the first semis played on Wednesday. In form Vinicius Junior gave Madrid the lead but Luuk De Jong drew Barcelona level.
Karim Benzema put Madrid up in the second half again Ansu Fati came from the bench to head Barcelona level to force an extra time.
Federico Valverde slotted home the winner in the extra time to help Real Madrid book their place in the final.
Bilbao who defeated Lionel Messi’s Barcelona after extra time in the last edition will be hoping to become the first team to win the Supercopa de España four-format edition in consecutive years.
