Blazers’ Al-Farouq Aminu leads as D’Tigers hold first training ahead of FIBA World Cup qualifiers
Portland Trailblazers forward Al Farouq Aminu led as the Nigeria’s national men basketball team held their first training ahead of their 4th Window FIBA Basketball World Cup qualifiers in Lagos.
Back in the national team set up for the first time since he led Nigeria to the 2015 Afrobasket title, “The Chief”, was full of life in the session under the watchful eyes of coach Alex Nwora.
The likes of Bryant Mbamalu, Ben Uzoh, Obekpa Chris, Ike Nwamu, Obi Emegano,Alade Aminu, Tonye Jekiri and Ike Diogu also participated in the training session.
So far, its just 75% of the players invited players that are in the camp but the training will continue tomorrow at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Lagos as more players arrive.
Nigeria will tackle Ivory Coast, Central Africa Republic, and Senegal on 14th, 15th and 16th of September 2018 in the first legs of the Second-Round tournament (the fourth window).
The return legs to follow during the fifth window (November 26th-December 4th, 2018) and the sixth window (February 20-28th, 2019).
Nigeria currently tops group F with 12 points from 6 games after wins in all of their games in the first-3rd windows.
The top two teams from groups E and F and the best third-ranked team will secure their tickets for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019.
The first-ever 32-team edition of FIBA’s flagship competition will take place from August 31-September 15, 2019, in China.
