Andy Murray is a great player, but he is beatable – Nick Kyrgios

Nick Kyrgios believes his fourth-round Wimbledon clash against Andy Murray shapes as his best chance to finally beat the Brit who he believes is a great player.

The Australian completed a four-set win over Feliciano Lopez on Sunday to set up a last-16 clash with Murray.

Kyrgios has lost his previous four official meetings with the Brit, finally taking his first set off the world number two at last year’s US Open.

Murray may be a Wimbledon champion, but the 21-year-old Kyrgios feels this could be his best opportunity to finally record a win over his good friend.

“He’s won here before. I think it doesn’t change it too much, I don’t think,” he said.

“This is probably my best surface, my best chance to beat him. At the same time I think he’s pretty comfortable on the grass.”

Kyrgios said his relationship with Murray was “love at first sight”, but the latter has won his previous 18 matches against Australians.

The 15th seed took plenty out of the meeting between the pair at Flushing Meadows.

“I think last time I played him was at the US Open in a major. I thought I made some inroads there. Finally won a set against him in a grand slam,” Kyrgios said.

“I feel like I know what to do. But it’s hard to actually go out there and execute against such a player like him obviously.”

Kyrgios did beat Murray at the Hopman Cup at the start of the year, and he knows he is capable of a stunning upset.

He said: “I definitely feel like he’s beatable. He’s only human. At the same time he’s a great player.”
