Boniface hits double goal figures at Leverkusen, receives last season top-scorer award

Nigerian striker, Victor Boniface hit double goal figures at Bayer Leverkusen in their 5-1 win over Qarabag in the UEFA Europa League game on Thursday, October 26.

Boniface was also presented with his award for finishing as top-scorer in the UEFA Europa League for the 2022/2023 season.

Recall that the Real Sapphire product joined German Bundesliga side, Bayer Leverkusen in the summer from Belgian Club Royal Union Saint Gilloloise, after an exceptional season that saw him finish as European Football second tier club competitions top marksman.

At Bayer Leverkusen, Victor Boniface has carried over his goal-scoring exploits, hitting his tenth goal of the season on Thursday night.

In the 35th minute, the Nigerian International received a pass from a teammate before unleashing a rocket shot into the top corner to extend Leverkusen’s lead to 3-1 in the match.

In the 57th minute he then turned provider as he set up Edmond Tapsoba for Leverkusen’s fifth goal of the night.

A sensational start to the season this has been for Victor Boniface and Bayer Leverkusen who have won their first three group games in Europe since the 2001-02 UEFA Champions League season when they reached the final.

Also, they have not lost a game in all competitions this season.

In Belgium, Austrian-born Nigerian Tobias Lawal was in goal for LASK who lost 2-1 away to Union SG in Group E.

LASK occupy bottom in the group with zero points after three games.

Another Nigerian, Raphael Onyedika was in action to help Club Brugge secure a morale boosting away win.
