Boston Celtics Make History with Perfect Six-Game Road Trip
The Boston Celtics made history on Monday night, finishing a six-game road trip with a perfect record. Their 117-103 win over the Memphis Grizzlies secured their first-ever 6-0 road trip, a remarkable achievement for the franchise.
Dominant Performances Across the Trip
The Celtics started their trip with a commanding 121-99 win over the Utah Jazz, followed by a 129-116 victory against the Portland Trail Blazers. They continued their strong form with a 113-95 win over the Sacramento Kings. Even without star player Jayson Tatum, they overpowered the Phoenix Suns 132-102. A 121-111 victory over the San Antonio Spurs set the stage for their final win in Memphis.
Head coach Joe Mazzulla praised his team’s mentality after the final game.
“This whole road trip was about taking our mindset to another level,” Mazzulla told his players in the locker room. “Going 6-0 for the first time ever in this franchise is something we’ll need because we have to keep improving.”
Winning in Style
The Celtics didn’t just win all six games—they did so in dominant fashion. Each victory came by double digits, marking only the second time in franchise history they have achieved such a feat. The last time this happened was in March of the previous season, just before their championship run.
History suggests that long winning streaks on the road are a good sign for the Celtics. In the past, they have won at least five straight road games by double digits in the same season five times. Four of those seasons ended with an NBA title, while the fifth resulted in an Eastern Conference championship.
Derrick White’s Record-Breaking Night
Derrick White made history of his own during the Memphis game. He broke Isaiah Thomas’ franchise record for the most three-pointers in a single season, sinking his 246th three-pointer of the campaign. White hit the record-breaking shot early in the fourth quarter over 7-foot-4 Zach Edey.
Reflecting on his achievement, White said, “Looking back on my career, I never thought I’d be in this position.”
Before joining the Celtics, White had never made more than 84 three-pointers in a season. Since then, he has improved each year, with 149 and 196 in his previous two full seasons. He is now on track to finish this season with 270.
However, he might not hold the record for long. Jayson Tatum is close behind with 240 three-pointers, while Payton Pritchard has 238.
Horford’s Veteran Leadership
Al Horford played a key role in the win over Memphis, leading the team in scoring with 26 points. He shot 9-of-18 from the field and made six three-pointers.
It was Horford’s highest-scoring regular-season game since February 2021 and his best for the Celtics since October 2017. His teammates were full of praise for the 18-year veteran.
“Oldest guy on the team, and he had the most energy on the last game of a road trip,” said Tatum.
Looking Ahead
With their historic road trip behind them, the Celtics return home with momentum and confidence. Their dominant performances suggest they are serious contenders this season. If history repeats itself, this impressive run could be a sign of another deep playoff push.
