Brazil held by Ecuador in final Copa America group game
Venezuela crashes out after defeat by Peru
Brazil played a 1-1 draw against Ecuador in their final Group A game at the Copa America 2021 to qualify for the quarterfinals with 10 points from three wins and a draw. The Selecao rested a number of starters, including Neymar, Thiago Silva, Danilo and Casemiro, for the game. Real Madrid defender Eder Militao opened the scoring for the Selecao in the 37th minute before Angel Mena equalised for Ecuador after 53 minutes to earn them a valuable point that takes them into the quarterfinals.
In the group’s other game, Peru defeated Venezuela 1-0 to send them crashing out of the tournament as they finished bottom of the group. Andre Carillo scored the only goal of the game in the 48th minute to send Peru through to the quarterfinal of the Copa America with a second-place finish in the Group.
