Brendan Rodgers has been relieved of his duties as Leicester City manager, ending his four-year spell in charge of the English Premier League outfit. The Foxes are currently in 19th place in the league, one point away from safety.
Leicester City appointed Rodgers as a replacement for Claude Puel in 2019 after a stint with Scottish giants Celtic. He led the Foxes to the FA Cup title in 2021, also winning the FA Community Shield in the same year. The Foxes have struggled this season since losing captain Kasper Schmeichel and young defender Wesley Fofana. They have lost five of their last six games in the league, with a 2-1 defeat at Crystal Palace the final straw on the camel’s back.
Brendan Rodgers was linked with a move to a big side before the commencement of the season but has seen his time in the Premier League come to an abrupt end. Leicester City chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddanaprabha praised his work at the club, referring to him as a club legend. He, however, declared that results this season had been below expectations.
“The achievements of the team under Brendan’s management speak for themselves – we’ve experienced some of our finest footballing moments under his guidance and will always be grateful to him and his staff for the heights they helped us to reach on the pitch.
“Off the pitch, Brendan embraced the culture of the club and helped cultivate an outstanding developmental environment, particularly during the transition to Seagrave, and provided strong leadership during the unprecedented challenge of the coronavirus pandemic. His place in Leicester City history is assured, ” Srivaddanaprabha said.
Rodgers joins Frank Lampard, Thomas Tuchel, Steven Gerrard, Patrick Vieira and seven other managers who have lost their jobs in the Premier League this season.
