Bright Osayi-Samuel: “My Only Focus Is Winning the League with Fenerbahçe”
Nigerian defender Bright Osayi-Samuel has denied reports that he rejected a new contract from Turkish club Fenerbahçe. The 27-year-old says his main focus is on helping the team win the Super Lig title.
Osayi-Samuel is in the final months of his contract and could leave for free in the summer. English clubs like Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest, and Wolves are said to be interested in signing him.
But in an interview with Turkish media outlet Aspor, Osayi-Samuel made it clear he is not thinking about a move right now.
“Many people speak as if they know the truth,” he said. “I play for Fenerbahçe and I am very happy here. People say I turned down a new contract, but that’s not true. There is nothing like that. I have a very good relationship with the president of the club.”
He added: “Right now, my only thought is the league title. We will sit down with the president after the season and talk.”
Osayi-Samuel played a big part in Fenerbahçe’s 3-1 away win against Sivasspor on Sunday. The victory keeps the team just three points behind rivals Galatasaray with seven matches left.
“We need to focus on ourselves,” he said. “If we win all our matches, I believe we will be champions. Every game is like a final now. We will just keep pushing and focus on the next match.”
Osayi-Samuel joined Fenerbahçe from QPR in 2021. Since then, he has transformed from a winger into a solid right-back and is now valued at around €7 million.
