Lille LOSC were crowned champions of Ligue 1 after they defeated Angers 2-1 in the final game of the Ligue 1 season despite Paris St Germain defeating Stade Brest 2-0 in their own fixture.
Young Canadian striker Jonathan David opened the scoring for Lille in the 10th minute of the encounter before 35-year-old Turkish striker Burak Yilmaz scored from the penalty spot to double his side’s lead on the stroke of halftime. Angelo Fulgini scored in the 90th minute to halve the deficit, but Lille held on for a memorable victory that saw them crowned as champions despite PSG’s 2-0 win over Brest.
Lille finish the season on 83 points, one point ahead of PSG, who finish in second place as they failed to win the Ligue 1 title for only the second time in the past nine years. Lille have claimed their first title since the 2010/11 season.
