Brown Ideye blasts Victor Osimhen over Finidi George outburst
Victor Osimhen has been criticized by former Nigerian international Brown Ideye for his disparaging comments about Super Eagles assistant coach Finidi George on social media.
The controversy arose when Osimhen reacted angrily to a reported comment from Finidi, suggesting that he would not beg any player to join the national team after Osimhen missed out on World Cup qualifiers due to injury.
Osimhen’s public outburst, where he expressed his frustration with Finidi, has drawn significant backlash. Brown Ideye, a former AFCON winner, voiced his strong disapproval of Osimhen’s behavior, emphasizing that such actions are disrespectful to a national icon like Finidi.
In a discussion on the platform X, Ideye shared his perspective, criticizing Osimhen for not handling the situation privately.

He suggested that Osimhen should have verified Finidi’s comments directly with him or through formal channels, such as involving his lawyer or contacting the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) president, rather than airing his grievances publicly.
Ideye recounted how he reached out to Osimhen following the incident, advising him to apologize both to Finidi and the Nigerian public. He highlighted the importance of respecting legends who have paved the way for current players. Ideye remarked, “No matter how we want to say it, he’s a legend. He cleared the road for you, like we normally say in Nigeria, so you don’t disrespect people like that.”
The former striker stressed the need for Osimhen to acknowledge his mistake and make a public apology, stating that his behavior was unbecoming of Africa’s best player. Ideye also pointed out the broader issue of a lack of true leadership within the Super Eagles squad, which he believes has led to such unacceptable behaviors among some players.
