Bucks Star Damian Lillard Sidelined Indefinitely with Blood Clot Issue

Milwaukee Bucks star Damian Lillard will be out of action for an indefinite period after being diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis in his right calf, the team confirmed on Tuesday.

The 34-year-old has been placed on blood-thinning medication to treat the condition, which also ended San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama’s season earlier this year.

“Damian’s health is our top priority,” said Bucks general manager Jon Horst. “Doctors have reassured us that this is very unlikely to happen again. We are grateful it was detected early and treated quickly, which helps with his recovery.”

Lillard has been a key player for Milwaukee this season, averaging nearly 25 points per game along with 4.7 rebounds and 7.1 assists. He has formed a strong partnership with Giannis Antetokounmpo, helping the team secure fifth place in the Eastern Conference with a 40-31 record.

His absence could hurt the Bucks’ chances in the playoffs, as they aim to make a deep run in the postseason.

Blood clots have impacted several NBA players in recent years. Two-time champion Chris Bosh had to retire due to recurring clot issues, while others, like Detroit Pistons’ Ausar Thompson and Brandon Ingram of the New Orleans Pelicans, successfully returned to play after treatment.
