Burna Boy adds another feather to cap, set to perform at Champions League final
Afrobeats act to become first African artiste to headline Champions League final
Ballon d’Or crooner Burna Boy has been confirmed as the headline act for the 2023 UEFA Champions League Final scheduled to take place on June 10th in Istanbul. The Grammy-winning artiste will headline his second major sports event in 2023.
Burna Boy performed at the NBA All-Star Game alongside Tems and Rema last month, becoming the first African artiste to do so. He has now also been confirmed to be one of the performers that will be in Istanbul for the final of Europe’s premier club competition.
Burna Boy will be the first artiste from Nigeria and Africa as a whole to perform in a UEFA Champions League final. He will be performing in the UEFA Champions League Final Kick Off Show by Pepsi, the seventh of its kind since replacing the opening ceremony, as it was previously known. The Last Last crooner revealed his excitement at the opportunity to perform on one of the biggest stages in the world.
“As a huge football fan myself, I know it doesn’t get any bigger than the UEFA Champions League! That’s why I’m so excited to be performing on the Pepsi stage at this year’s final. Music and football are the ultimate combination, so you already know I’ll be bringing the vibes and making magic in Istanbul. The world isn’t ready for what we have in store!”
Nigerian musicians have continued to make waves on the biggest stages, with Burna Boy following in the footsteps of Davido, who performed in the FIFA World Cup final in Qatar.
