CAF announces qualifiers kick-off date for 2025 African Cup of Nations

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has made a decisive move by revealing the kick-off date for the qualifiers of the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

While the 2023 AFCON is scheduled to take place from January 13 to February 11, 2024, in Ivory Coast, CAF has already set the stage for the next edition.

Key Points of the latest CAF update:

  1. Qualifiers Timeline: CAF has announced the schedule for the qualifiers of the 2025 AFCON. The preliminary round is set to take place from March 18 to 26, 2024.
  2. Subsequent Phases: The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, first and second rounds of matches are scheduled from September 2 to 10, 2024. The 3rd to 4th round of games will take place from September 7 to 15, 2024. The final rounds of matches are slated for November 11 to 19, 2024.
  3. Host Nation: Morocco will host the 2025 AFCON after Guinea was stripped of its hosting rights following a review by the Confederation of Africa Football [CAF].
  4. Immediate Focus on 2023 AFCON: Nigeria’s immediate focus is on the 2023 AFCON, where the Super Eagles are placed in Group A alongside hosts Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau. The tournament is crucial for Nigeria as they aim for a fourth continental crown and their first since 2013.
