CAF bows to pressure with dates picked for 2023 AFCON
The Confederation of African Football has finally given in to pressure from European clubs with the dates picked for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
CAF announced on Thursday that the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations will be staged in Ivory Coast on dates different from the usual.
There have been calls from European clubs for the biggest show piece in Africa, thr Africa Cup of Nations to be moved from January to a convenient time.
This cry by top European clubs who have many African stars in their team have fallen on deaf ears as CAF continues to stage the tournament on the normal dates.
But it seems CAF has now yielded to the call after their latest announcement that the 2023 AFCON will be staged in June and July.
The 34th edition to be held in Ivory Coast will start from June 23rd to July 23rd, 2023.
This is the second time in recent year that the Africa Cup of Nations will be staged in June-July and not the usual January-February.
