CAF CC: Kwara United to face AS Douanes behind closed doors
As if playing away from their home ground in Illorin is not challenging enough , Kwara United have received yet another blow as CAF has ordered the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round clash vs AS Douanes be played behind closed doors.
Kwara United FC picked the Mobolaji Johnson arena Lagos as it’s home ground for the 2022/2023 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup match and preparations for the first leg of the preliminary round tie received a knock at the Pre-match meeting on Saturday evening .
The closed door verdict was delivered at the Pre-match meeting by the Match Commissioner, General Tamba Langtombong from The Gambia .
General Langtombong, who read out the messages concerning the match from CAF added that arrangements needs to be made to comply with the new directive which comes with less than 24 hours to the match .
He equally warned on the consequences of going against the decision, especially encroachment, which, according to him, may count against Kwara United FC .
The reasons for the decision might not be unconnected with Covid-19 issues, especially as it has to do with inter-country engagements.
Aside the loss of a cheering home crowd , the decision will also deny Kwara United FC the opportunity of achieving economic and revenue values from the match after much publicity and logistic investment .
The club had earlier fixed ticket prices for the three categories of seats at the arena, which are the VVIP seats, the VIP seats and the Popular side.
In compliance with the CAF verdict , Kwara United FC has appealed to it’s fans to stay away from the match venue and take advantage of the live streaming of the match, as arranged by the club .
Kwara United FC and Remo Stars are Nigeria’s representatives for the 2022/2023 CAF Confederation Cup competition .
