CAF Champions League: Rangers FC get Comoros champions challenge in preliminary round

Reigning Nigeria Premier Football League champions, Rangers International F.C of Enugu have been drawn to play against Comoros Islands’ league champions. Union Sportive Zilimadjou in the first preliminary round of Total Energies CAF Champions League 2024/2025.

At the draw ceremony on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt, the ‘Flying Antelopes’ will travel first to the capital of the Island nation’ capital, Moroni where they will engage the Island nation’s champions, at the 14,000 capacity, Baumer Stadium, Moroni in either of 16,17, or 18 of August 2024 with the return leg in Nigeria a week later.

The club from the three Island nation that was formed in 1983 has won the national league championship four times and emerged victorious three times in the national cup competition in Comoros would be relying on thirty-one years old forward, Youssouf Mohamed and his twenty-nine years old strike partner, Mohamed Anoir Chamoune for goals while trusting the agility of thirty-year-old shot-stopper, Moussa Issihaka to try and prevent Rangers from scoring.

Rangers, who ended the 2023/2024 NPFL season as champions amassing a total of seventy points for the season, scoring fifty-six goals in the process, have their work cut out and will have to take the domestic form into the continent as they push to make great impact in the Total Energies CAF Champions League 2024/2025.

Coach of the Nigerian champions, Fidelis Ilechukwu nicknamed ‘The Building One’ said of the draw, “No team is a small team in the continent anymore. We respect our opponent in the Total Energies CAF Champions League 2024/2025 preliminary round, U.S. Zilimadjou of Comoros.

We shall give our preparations ahead of the encounter all the attention it deserves. Don’t forget that we are still building this team and we must be up and doing to ensure that we make an impact in the continental championship.
