CAF Champions League: Rivers United Edge Aigles Du Congo In Uyo

Stephen Manyo’s goal on the stroke of halftime sent Rivers United into the second preliminary round of the 2025/26 CAF Champions League for the third time in their history.
After holding FC Les Aigles du Congo to a 0-0 draw away last week, the Pride of Rivers returned home to the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Sunday needing a win.
Manyo grabbed the decisive goal in the 45th minute when the Congolese goalkeeper failed to hold on to Ubong Friday’s free kick.
Maclyn Biokpo who led the Rivers United attack in the game had two great chances to add to the score line but failed to convert when through on goal with only the goalkeeper to beat.
A nervy final quarter ensued as Aigles pushed hard for the equaliser but Finidi George tutored Rivers United held on to seal a 1-0 win.
Rivers United had earlier shown resilience in Kinshasa at the Stade des Martyrs, and their hard work paid off with progress to the next round.
They now advance alongside fellow Nigerian side Remo Stars as the country’s representatives in the competition.
