CAF Champions League: Rivers United Target First Win Against Power Dynamos
Rivers United of Nigeria will be hoping to revive their group-stage campaign in the 2025/2026 CAF Champions League when they face Zambia’s Power Dynamos on Saturday.
Both teams are yet to pick up a point in Group A after losing their opening two matches to defending champions Pyramids FC and Morocco’s RS Berkane. This has left little room for error as the group stage enters a crucial phase.
The match will be played at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola, where both sides will be desperate to secure their first win and keep their qualification hopes alive.
Despite their poor start in the competition, Rivers United and Power Dynamos are both leading their domestic leagues, showing the quality and confidence they bring into the encounter.
Speaking ahead of the match, Rivers United head coach, George Finidi, said his team would approach the game with an attacking mindset.
He said both teams would be eager to win, having lost their first two games, and added that his side has nothing to lose playing away from home.
Finidi stressed that Rivers United must start collecting points immediately if they are to remain in the race for a place in the knockout rounds.
He said the team’s target is to qualify from the group and that the process must begin with the match against Power Dynamos.
The former Nigeria international added that his players will go into the game ready to compete and fight for the best possible result, despite playing away from home.
Rivers United, also known as the Pride of Rivers, are currently top of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League standings with 41 points from 21 matches.
