CAF Competitions: Rivers Utd beat Celtic in South Africa as Enyimba bow to Al Merriekh in Sudan
Rivers United have secured a hard fought 2-0 win in their CAF Confederation Cup first leg clash against Bloemfontein Celtic in South Africa.
The Nigerian club took one step closer to the playoffs spot after scoring two goals in the second half at the Dr. Petrus Molemela Stadium on Wednesday.
Former Rangera attacker Godwin Aguda opened the scoring for Rivers against Celtic in the 71sy minute of the game.
Fortune Omoniwari made it two with a good striker in the 83rd minute of the game to seal a 2-0 first leg win for Rivers Unites.
The return leg would be played in PortHarcourt on 6th of January 2021.
Meanwhile, Enyimba International Nigeria’s remaining club in the CAF Champions League weren’t lucky in Sudan.
The 2002, 03 champions were humbled by three goals from Saifeldin Bakhit in Al Merreikh 3-0 first leg win.
Saifeldin Bakhit scored the goals in the 6th, 44th and 90th minutes to hand The Sudanese club a good advantage ahead of the second leg clash.
The second leg would be played in Nigeria on the 6th of January 2021.
