CAF to Inspect Nigerian Stadiums for 2024/25 Champions League and Confederation Cup

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will send a team to inspect four different stadiums in Nigeria next week as confirmed by the Nigeria Football Federation President, Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau.

These inspections are crucial for the teams representing Nigeria in the 2024/25 CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau confirmed the upcoming inspections during the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Annual General Meeting on Tuesday. He clarified that no stadium has been ruled out by CAF yet.

“It is not true that CAF only approved the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium for all our clubs playing on the continent next season. The CAF team will be in Nigeria next week to inspect all the four stadia registered by our four clubs. It is only after the inspection that we will know which stadium qualifies to host or not,” Gusau told CompleteSports.

He further explained, “CAF only barred all stadia in Nigeria, except for the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, from hosting national team matches because they are yet to meet its standards. Most African countries also failed to meet the standard, as some will play in other countries rather than their home countries.”

Nigeria will be represented in the CAF Champions League by league winners Rangers International of Enugu and Remo Stars of Ikenne.

Meanwhile, El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri and Enyimba International of Aba will compete in the Confederation Cup. The results of the inspections will determine if these clubs can host their matches in their home stadiums or need to look for alternatives.
