CAF Women’s Champions League: Matchday One wrap
The 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League kicked off on October 30, 2022 and we bring you a wrap of Matchday One results.
THE COMPETITION
The Confederation of African Football – CAF launched the women’s Continental club competition in 2021.
South African side Mamelodi Sundowns emerged Champions following success at the regional eliminations and the main event which featured 8 clubs.
Sundowns defeated Harcacas ladies 2-0 in the 2021 final to win the maiden edition.
MATCHDAY ONE OF THE 2022 EDITION
Eight clubs, divided in two groups are participating in the 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League.
In Group A, Green Buffalos were 4-0 victors over Determine Girls FC of Liberia while Morroco’s ASFAR FC defeated Simba Queens 1-0.
Both games were played on Sunday October 30, 2022.
In Group B, reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns began their title defence with a 2-1 victory over debutants Bayelsa Queens of Nigeria.
Lelona Dawetti with both goals for Sundowns before Mary-Magdalene Anjor halved the deficit for the Nigerians with a powerful strike late-on but the champions held on for the win.
Wadi Degla AC fell to a 0-1 loss to TP Mazembe in the other Group B game on Monday October 31, 2022.
Kajinga’s early goal enough to hand the Congolese side all three points against their Egyptian opponents at the Grand Stade De Marreckch.
STANDINGS AFTER MATCHDAY ONEÂ
Zambia’s Green Buffalos are top of Group A with 3 points plus a healthy +4 goal as difference over second placed ASFAR FC who are level on 3 points but with a +1 goal difference.
Determine Girls FC and Simba Queens are third and fourth respectively with no points following their Matchday One losses.
South Africa’s TP Mazembe lead the way in Group B with 3 points same as second placed TP Mazembe.
Defeated Wadi Degla AC and Bayelsa Queens FC occupy the last two spots in Group B.
MATCHDAY ONE SUMMARY
– All four Matchday One games ended in wins (No draw).
– 9 goals were scored in 4 games.
– Only the TP Mazembe vs Bayelsa Queens match had goals to both sides. That was the first time TP Mazembe conceded in the CAF Women’s Champions League.
The South African side did not concede any goal on their way to clinching the title in 2021.

WHERE IS THE COMPETITION PLAYEDÂ
Morroco are hosts of the 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League.
The Stade Prince Heriter Moulay El Hassan, Rabat, Grand Stade De Marreckch and Stade Moulay Abdellah, Rabat are designated venues for the games.
The final on November 13, 2022 will be played at the Stade Moulay Abdellah Rabat.
